Jenna Bush Hager’s new look is so cool, it’ll definitely blow your socks off.
The Today with Hoda & Jenna star, 42, and her cohost Hoda Kotb, 59, are always down to experiment with styles, and on Tuesday’s episode, Bush Hager tried out the “Eclectic Grandpa” trend going viral on TikTok.
“There’s a new style trend that’s picking up steam,” Kotb began. “Last year it was all about 'Coastal Grandma'. Now, it’s about ‘Eclectic Grandpa,’ ” she said, crediting Harry Styles, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Tyler the Creator for the aesthetic’s popularity.
As Kotb explained, the viral trend can be narrowed down to “colorful outside wear, knitwear, tweed, loafers with socks, sensible sneakers, maybe a baseball hat.”
Bush Hager’s interpretation of the look included heeled loafers (with hidden pennies stashed in them!) and anklet socks.
“Don’t look too close ‘cause I haven’t shaved,” she joked as the camera zoomed into her footwear and her “high-waters.”
Bush Hager exclaimed, "I'm an eclectic grandpa!" to which Kotb responded, “You are and you’re super cute!”
Bush Hager was just “happy” that she found a trend she could pull off. “I was never a ‘Coastal Cowgirl’. I tried to be a ‘Coastal Grandma’, but I really wasn’t one. All along there was an Eclectic Grandpa hiding in me.”
The talk show hosts aren’t newbies to TikTok fashion.
Back in 2022, they reserved their segment for chit-chat surrounding the “Coastal Grandma” movement, which is code for the minimalist, preppy coastal attire associated with Nancy Meyers movies. “Oh, so it’s like the Golden Girls," Kotb noted at the time.
And we doubt that these trends are going to stop there. Over the past few years, there have been a ton of style and beauty fads nicknamed after niche styles, including the makeup and clothes fads inspired by produce (trust us, the thirst over baby blue “Blueberry Milk” last summer was real.)
With the rise of the “Mob Wives” aesthetic (read: luxurious faux fur coats, bossed-up suits and stilettos), we’re betting we’ll see a lot more badass moments on the red carpet as 2024 continues.
