Beauty lovers are fishing in their bedside table drawers for an unlikely item they discovered achieves the perfect 'wet' hair look. 

Makeup artist Christina Sikalias, from Melbourne sent her followers into a spin after she shared a tutorial on how to use water-based lubricant to get 'wet look' hair in an Instagram video. 

The 29-year-old beauty guru found out about the risqué hack from top hair stylist, Dimitri Kyvetos and said it make her hair 'super shiny' without feeling 'crunchy'.

The 'wet' hair look was popularised after celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Megan Fox donned the style on the red carpet. 

Christina showed her followers how to do 'wet look' hair with lube starting by squeezing a generous amount onto her hands. 

She smooths the lube through her locks, adds more to her hands and scrunches her hair to create loose beachy waves.

'It doesn't dry out and it makes the hair super shiny without feeling crunchy like other gels! Just make sure it's water based.'

Many of Christina's followers rushed to try out the cheeky trick and agreed lube works as well as hair gels. 

'It worked and looks hella good,' one viewer said. 

'Lube sales go up 200 per cent next month because of this tutorial,' another wrote. 

'When you with your man at 9, but need to hit the club at 10,' joked a third. 

Stylist: How to get the perfect wet hair look using lubricant

To create the best look, hair stylist Joabe Vidal, from London, combines lube, gel, and conditioner. Follow his steps to DIY the wet hair look yourself:

Wet your hair 'You must always start off by spraying the hair with wet water, as this creates the base and primes the hair, and doing it on dry hair will not have the same effect or longevity,' said Joabe.

Lube it up 'After spraying the hair, I start off with putting the lube all over the hair,' he said.

Condition and coat 'Mix together the gel and conditioner,' Joabe said.  Smooth the mixture onto the hair. 'I always like to include the conditioner as I think it nourishes the hair and avoids a 'sticky' look,' he added.

Add shine 'I like to always finish off the look with a high shine spray, just to further add to the wet hair look,' Joabe said.

INVEST IN A HIGH QUALITY EYE CREAM 

A good eye cream is important because you never want your concealer to settle into fine lines; I like the Kiehls Avocado Eye Cream ($50). 

You should always put on a really thick eye cream at night to de-puff and keep everything hydrated since the skin around our eyes is thinner, more delicate and holds less moisture at once, so you want the cream to sit there and soak in.

USE TWO SHADES FOR PERFECT BROWS 

Fill in brows using two different shades of eyebrow pencil, one two shades lighter and one two shades darker. 

Use the darker shade to fill in the outer brows starting at the arch for a more lifted look and the lighter pencil to fill in the inner brows, so they look softer and more natural.

PAUSE AFTER CONCEALER TO HIDE DARK CIRCLES 

For the best coverage, the trick is to wait a full five minutes for the concealer to thicken and set a bit and then blend it out. 

If you blend it out too soon, the concealer will sheer out too much.

COVER SCARS WITH TEXTURE 

When it comes to covering texture, steer clear from using dewy, luminous foundations and powders all over your face, since these exaggerate scarring and emphasise the texture of your skin. 

You want to keep the skin looking matte. Makeup products that create a matte finish will visually soften and smooth the texture of your skin.

LOCK IN YOUR LOOK WITH A MIST
